The Louisiana Gateway Port (LGP) Capital Improvement Program outlines a 30-year roadmap for expanding Plaquemines Parish’s port infrastructure, creating thousands of jobs, and strengthening Louisiana’s global trade position. Guided by the 2024 Master Plan, the program details more than $29 billion in public and private investment, 97 percent of which comes from private sector partners such as Venture Global LNG, Gulfstream LNG, and SunGas Renewables.
Key projects include the Louisiana Gateway Container Terminal, Intermodal Rail Yard, and major ferry and waterway upgrades that will increase cargo throughput, improve intermodal connectivity, and support sustainable growth. Once complete, the terminal alone is projected to handle 1 million TEUs annually, generate 785 new jobs, and add over $500 million in business revenue and personal income statewide.
The Master Plan emphasizes environmental stewardship, innovation, and self-sufficiency—operating entirely without local tax dollars while aligning with Louisiana’s Ports and Waterways Investment Commission and the state’s sustainability goals of achieving net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2050. Through coordinated investment in rail, road, and maritime systems, Louisiana Gateway Port positions Plaquemines Parish as the Gulf’s premier multimodal gateway for U.S. and global commerce.
