PURPOSE: To establish an Employment Register to replace one (1) current vacancy in the Port Harbors and Terminal District – Rescue Boats Department and future vacancies as they occur.
SUMMARY OF JOB
Performs the following tasks and others as assigned by supervisor:
Under general supervision, performs related rescue and administrative work in support of the operations of the Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District. Work involves handling the responsibility of operations such as navigation, care, safety, and management of vessels; handling the responsibility for the safety and care of crew and all personnel and equipment on board; maintaining a United States Coast Guard 100 Ton Master Mariner license; remaining informed of United States laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of vessel and on the water; performing rescues; responding to fires, boat accidents, and any other calls. Reports to the Marine Inspector on duty.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION TO EXAMINATION
- Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented with a minimum of one (1) year experience (two years of experience preferred) in rescue operations and vessel experience or closely related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Satisfactory physical condition, including back, vision and hearing.
- MUST have a valid Louisiana driver’s license with satisfactory record.
- MUST have a valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential card (TWIC). (Note: Employee is responsible for renewing and maintaining a valid TWIC card at all times while employed with PPHTD.)
- MUST have a current United States Coast Guard 100 Ton Merchant Mariner License.
- MUST submit to and pass a criminal history background check through Louisiana State Police, Criminal Identification Bureau which may confirm or deny eligibility with Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District.
- MUST consent to and pass the requirements of DOT Rule 49 CFR Part 40:25 verification for employment performing safety-sensitive duties.
- Must attach a copy of Credentials (USCG License, LA Driver’s License, TWIC card, and DOT Rule 49 CFR form).
KIND OF EXAMINATION (ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
This examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Applicants must submit accurate, detailed application forms providing all requested information, including descriptions of work experience, names, and addresses of previous employers and dates employed. Qualified applicants will be notified of the time, date and place of any assembled test(s) which may be given.
